Graduate Marine Engineer (GME) Course:

Graduate Marine Engineer (GME) Course is for the candidates who have already completed engineering degree either in Mechanical or in Naval Architectures. Mechanical Engineers who wish to join Merchant Navy as Marine Engineer have to do a special training. This training is called Graduate Marine Engineer (GME) Course.
Duration of Graduate Marine Engineer (GME) Course is 1 year. After completion of GME course candidate is posted as Junior Engineer on Merchant Navy cargo ships. After that depending upon promotions and experience candidate can move up to the top post of Chief Engineer Officer. Generally average candidates take 7-8 years to become Chief Engineer of the ship.

Eligibility criteria for Graduate Marine Engineer (GME) Course from AEMA.
  1. B.E./ B.Tech. in Mechanical/ Naval Architecture or Mechanical & Automation after attending a course of 4 years duration from a UGC recognized University and/or approved by AICTE, with minimum 60% aggregate marks and minimum 60% marks in the final year.
  2. In class 12th or equivalent have scored minimum 60% marks in PCM or Diploma aggregate 60%.
  3. For Diploma candidates with lateral entry to 2nd year of B.Tech, need to have scored 60% and above in Diploma followed by the Degree eligibility criteria.
  4. Maximum age should not exceed 28 years on the date of commencement of course
  5. Course commences in March, July and November every year.

Selection Process

  1. Online written exam – This exam consists of multiple choice questions of English, General Aptitude, Reasoning and Mechanical Engineering.
