How to Join Merchant Navy after Completing Diploma

After completing Diploma, candidates have opportunity to join Merchant Navy  in Marine Engineer officers category & in Electro Technical Officer ( ETO ) category.
There are three types of courses which Diploma Holders can do to join Merchant Navy.
Lateral Entry in 2nd Year of B.Tech Marine Engineering Course to become Marine Engineer 

1. Passed 3 yrs Diploma course in Mechanical / Marine / Electrical / Electrical & Electronics.
2. Minimum 55 % marks aggregate in the final year.
3. Minimum 50 % marks in English at 10th/12th or in Degree exam
4. Age up to 25 Yrs.

Candidates who fulfill above criteria can take admission of 2nd year of B.tech Marine Engineering course. This is termed as Lateral Entry. After Passing Marine Engineering course, candidate will be posted as Junior Engineer on Ship.
There are many reputed colleges which conduct Lateral entry course. Candidate can approach to those colleges directly for admission. Before taking admission in any Institute you must ensure that Institute is approved by Director General of Shipping of India.

2 Years Marine Engineering course for Diploma Holders ( DME Course )

1. Passed Diploma course in Mechanical / Marine / Electrical / Electrical & Electronics/ Naval Architectures.
2. Minimum 50 % marks aggregate in the final year.
3. Minimum 50 % marks in English at 10th/12th or in Degree exam
4. Age up to 28 Yrs.

Candidates who fulfill above criteria can take admission in any of the Director General of Shipping of India approved Institutes. After Passing Marine Engineering course, candidate will be posted as Junior Engineer on Ship.
6 Months Electro Technical Officer Course ( ETO Course )

• Passed 3 yrs Diploma course in Electrical / Electronics / Electrical & Electronics / Electronics &Tele communication.
• Minimum 60 % marks aggregate in the final year.
• Minimum 50 % marks in English at 10th/12th or in Degree exam
• Age up to 35 Yrs.

Candidates who fulfill above criteria can take admission  in Electro Technical officer course in of the institutes approved by Director General of Shipping of India .After Passing ETO course, candidate will be posted as Electrical Engineer on Ship.
